ESG: How do you measure the human impact of your business activities?

ESG ready?

What about the S pillar?

At the end of 2022, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) had its inception. An ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy is therefore no longer a nice-to-have, but a necessity. Companies with more than 250 employees, a turnover of more than 40 million euros per year or more than 20 million euros on their balance sheet will have to submit an ESG report by 2026. A company with more than 500 employees will have to do so from 2025. Small or medium-sized companies will be required to report from 2027.

How well developed is your ESG strategy? Many companies already have a clearly defined plan for the Environmental pillar. The S pillar is catching up. Are you also initiating various activities that have an impact on the Social pillar, but don’t know how to start reporting? How do you measure the impact on people? Let it be precisely that S pillar that Move To Happiness deals with on a daily basis. Therefore, we are happy to share some tips regarding the S pillar.

Tips for completing the S pillar

The social pillar of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) focuses on the impact of a company’s operations on its employees, customers, suppliers, and communities. Companies can fill in the social pillar by prioritizing the following areas:

  1. Fair labor practices: Companies must ensure that their employees are treated fairly and equitably. This includes providing competitive wages, benefits, and working conditions, promoting diversity and inclusion, and ensuring that employees have opportunities for professional growth and development.
  2. Corporate well-being: Companies must prioritize the health and safety of their employees. Every employee is unique and therefore has different needs in terms of well-being. This is precisely why Move To Happiness is committed to a total wellbeing-gathering; the wide range of offerings provides something for everyone.

3. Community engagement: Businesses should also engage with the communities in which they operate and contribute to their well-being. One way of doing this is by supporting local businesses, providing employment and investing in community development. Here too, the Move To Happiness platform can support businesses. For example, the wellbeing facilitator organizes an annual “Go sustainable-challenge” in collaboration with The Click. Employees are encouraged to pick up as much litter as possible with colleagues and family. The competition between departments creates extra fun in the workplace. Moreover, employees are also rewarded individually with Coins, which they can exchange at local merchants. Did the kids do their part by helping sort waste? Nothing more fun than going for an ice cream together with self-earned coins.
